DAVID WALKER WOOD It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the untimely passing of David Walker Wood on October 17, 2007, at 48 years of age, after a very courageous battle with brain cancer. Remaining to cherish David's memory are, daughter Amanda (Ken), grandchildren Jaiden and Emmy, son David Johnny, brothers Gavin (Joy), Gordon (Lori), sister Judy (Jon), nephew Samuel, longtime girlfriend Renee Duval, and Uncle Jimmy Wood (Olga). Also left to mourn are cousins, nephews, nieces and many close friends. David was predeceased by his parents, Douglas Murray Wood and Marion Gertrude Wood, close aunts and uncles Murray and Margaret Morin, Walter and Irene Noble, and grandparents Samuel and Florence Noble, and George and Isabella Wood. David, a devoted son, brother, father and friend, was born October 23, 1958, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Following high school, Dave joined MTS and was employed with them for almost 30 years. David enjoyed his job and his many co-workers, in particularly close partners and friends Bill McFetridge and Ken Crosley. Dave did his stint as a hockey dad in D.J's junior years in AAA and was always there to encourage and support his children in their endeavours and struggles. He was so thrilled when daughter Amanda made him a grandpa for the first time - Dave looked too young to be called Grandpa. He adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he was able to spend with them. David enjoyed many summers at the family cottage in St. Laurent on Lake Manitoba and in recent years he had taken over the family cottage with hopes of one day retiring out there. Many a summer evening was enjoyed by David around the bonfire with great music, good cheer and close friends and family. His love of motorcycles started at a young age, beginning with mini bikes at the lake and graduating up to his treasured Harley Davidson just acquired in 2006. Dave loved nothing better than taking his bike out for a cruise on a nice summer afternoon. Sadly, he was unable to achieve that joy this past summer. When in Dave's company, you could rest assured music would be playing. His repertoire of Beatle music was legendary and Dave knew every lyric. Even in his failing weeks, as speech was becoming difficult for him, singing seemed effortless. He loved music and it was a great solace to him in his life. David was an easygoing, generous, and caring man who took people at face value. To know Dave was to love him. When faced with a grim diagnosis earlier this year David's good nature never faltered, and he faced his struggle so courageously, even maintaining his good sense of humour. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Garry Schroeder and his primary nurse Kaeleigh Cockvill at the Brain Cancer Clinic at CancerCare Manitoba for their valuable assistance during Dave's treatment process, in addition to the several Palliative homecare nurses and the doctors and staff at the Palliative Care Centre, St. Boniface Hospital who attended to Dave in these past few weeks. In keeping with Dave's wishes, a service to celebrate David's life will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba. (885-9715). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (Brain Cancer), Rm 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9. The Long and Winding Road Will Be So Lonesome Without You David - We Love You.
