RITA DOROTHY LOVE On October 10, 2007, our dear mother Rita Dorothy Love passed away at the age of 80. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Douglas Love, her children, Kim, David and Stephen (Tami) and her grandchildren, Darcie, Michael and Kurtis. Born on April 15, 1927 in Hove, England, mum met and married a Canadian soldier, Douglas Love and they married in England on December 19, 1953. Moving back to Canada they settled on the Love family farm in Seaforth, Ontario. Farm life was a culture shock for mum as she was raised in the seaside resort town of Brighton, England with its wide beaches and piers looking out to the English Channel. Mum would name the farms animals, making pets of them and then shocked to find her pet chicken Henrietta in the cooking pot the next night. She couldn't bear to eat the poor thing . Mum spent the next 20 years following our Dad throughout the world as the military shipped our family to Soest, Germany in 1957 and then to London, ON in 1959 and Soest, Germany again in 1965. In 1968 we left Germany for Winnipeg, MB and finally Kamloops in 1975. A wonderful person with a heart of gold, mum touched everyone she met in some way. Always having a kind word or a hug if one was needed. She had the typical British sense of humour with stories of life in England and Grandma and Grandpa that always left us smiling. Her humour, generosity and immense love for her family and friends will be missed beyond measure. She was a tough old bird as she liked to call herself. She survived the bombing of England during the Second World War, lost a lung to T.B. in 1947, is a cancer survivor, as well as a host of other medical difficulties. She made it this far with the odds seemingly against her, but her strength and love of family, friends and wanting to see her children and grandchildren grow and succeed was her driving force. She lost her final battle and passed peacefully away in her sleep after a short illness and into the arms of her mother, father and brother who were waiting for her. Sleep well mum, you deserve it. We love you dearly. A celebration of mum's life will be held at the Kamloops Funeral Home Banquet Room on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be emailed to: sympathy@shawbiz.ca
