LIONEL GEORGE CHARLES HUTCHINGS August 16, 1947 - October 12, 2007 With great sadness, we announce the passing of our loving father and papa on Friday, October 12, 2007. Cherishing his memory are his children, Lee Ann (Scott Hawkins), Terri (Wally Sutherland), and Christopher, his much adored grandchildren, Tanner, Brady and Delaney Hawkins and many extended family and friends including his sister Alice Noble and family. Dad was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan in 1947. After the untimely death of his father there were many uncertain times until he ended up at the home of his much loved foster parents, Bill and Bobby Weir in Melfort, Saskatchewan. At 28 he married his first wife, Peggy, and settled in with his new family, later adopting her two daughters as his own. As sometimes happens in life, he found himself unexpectedly, but lovingly, raising his girls himself. After a few years, he met and married his second wife, Sarah, and had his beloved son, Christopher. Unexpectedly at the young age of 57, Dad's health declined and he found himself living his final years at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home. He was a generous, loving, devoted, and hard working father who had a sense of humour second to none. He was larger than life, and left an impression on everyone who knew him. Papa took great pride in his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He never failed to ask about them and shared their exploits with anyone who would listen. Much to the chagrin of his family, he was a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan to the end, only redeeming himself by cheering for the Philadelphia Flyers in the off season. The family would also like to thank the staff at Birchwood for their care of Dad these last three years and a very appreciative thank you to Lorraine Johnson for her special care and friendship. A private family celebration of Dad's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's memory to the Salvation Army's Miracle Marathon or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
