Elsie ran a store, but her heart was in nursing as she assisted doctors in delivering babies, and nursed the mothers as a Practical Nurse. During the war she worked in a gun factory to help support her daughter Gwen. Elsie gave birth to her two daughters in Souris and moved to Brandon in 1953 where she took on a new life as mother, guide and brownie leader, Sunday school teacher and counseling teenage girls. She worked on the United Church Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the Brandon General Hospital. Elsie was also a foster mother to a child from the Aboriginal School in Brandon. In 1969 Elsie and Eric moved to Bredenbury where she joined the Busy Bees Church auxiliary. Elsie and Eric moved to Selkirk in 1980 to be closer to their grandchildren. After her husband died Elsie moved to the Knights Center where she spent her last 22 years working in the Knight's kitchen, or helping her neighbours. Elsie loved spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, crocheting and traveling. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk with Rev. Ivan Smith officiating. The family would like to thank all the Home Care Workers for their friendship and nursing care. Also the caring staff on the Medical Ward at the Selkirk General Hospital.
