JACK SYLVESTER HENDERSON It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Henderson announces his sudden passing on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Victoria Hospital. Dad had recently celebrated his 88th birthday with all his Winnipeg family. Dad was predeceased by Mom in 2003 and now they are together again. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Bob Henderson (Gail), Wes Henderson (Rosemary), Laurie Andersen (Paul); his grandchildren: Tanis Petreny (Gale), Rob Henderson (Susan), Matt and Whitney Henderson, Jeff Andersen (Amanda), Kim and Evan Andersen; his great-grandchildren: Lauren and Erin Petreny and Ransom Henderson. Dad is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Fred Rossnagel (Marjorie), Addie Vogt (Al), Ernie Rossnagel (Norma), and Marge Wright; along with many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Winnipeg on October 9, 1919. He grew up in Elmwood and along with his two brothers had served in the Navy during the Second World War. After his service Dad apprenticed as a painter and eventually operated his own painting and decorating company before taking a position with the Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals in the maintenance department. After their retirement, Dad and Mom spent many years as snowbirds in Florida. They had great times with many new friends from across North America. Dad and Mom also enjoyed many summers in their trailer at Idle Wheels Trailer Park near Gimli. Dad was very much a handy man. Building this or repairing that was his hobby and it gave him a great deal of pleasure to help his two sons and daughter on various home or lake projects. In his later years he still helped out but in more of a supervisory position and was known then as the Supe . Dad was very much a family man - very proud of his children and his grandchildren. Whenever he could he would attend various school and sporting activities cheering us on. As we grew and started our own families. Dad was there to support us in every way. This past summer, at 87, Dad attended his grandson's wedding in Regina and enjoyed many a dance with his children, nieces and grandchildren. Most recently Dad lived in the Rosewood Village and by all accounts from his caregivers. Dad was considered a proper gentleman; a very kind and positive person who was always very polite and gracious. We would like to thank the ladies at Rosewood for their loving attention to our father. Say hi to Mom. We are thinking of you both. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
