HUGH EDWARD GANNON Hugh Edward Gannon, 63, died tragically on October 14, 2007 at his home in Gaspar Hernandez Dominican Republic. A tribute to his life will be held this Saturday at Canad Inns, 1824 Pembina Highway at 1:00 p.m. Hugh was born on June 22, 1944 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England to Lon and Edith Gannon. Hugh and Edith joined Lon in Canada in 1946 settling in St. Vital for most of Hugh's school years. After graduating from University of Manitoba with a Degree in Agriculture in 1970, he worked in a variety of Management positions taking him and his young family to Saskatchewan and Alberta. Hugh's interest in hotels and restaurants began while involved in the family business at the Laurier Hotel, launching him into a lifetime of entrepreneurship. Hugh was involved in many successful and high profile ventures over the years, including local Winnipeg restaurants Barnacle Pete's, Dirty Harry's and Malibu Bar Grill. In 1994, he pursued his dream by moving to the Dominican Republic to build a resort. His life on the Island gave him great pleasure, where he was involved in various businesses and was dedicated to building schools for the local children. Through the many businesses he owned, he has employed thousands of people, including his children, and many of their friends. He provided an entertaining environment for many to earn a living or pay their school tuition. Hugh was highly regarded as a boss, having numerous employees follow him from venture to venture. Hugh was a very kind hearted person, opening his home to many friends (including adopted daughter Ania) and relatives over the years. Hugh loved to travel, meet new people and try new things. His adventures inevitably inspired him with another business initiative. Hugh was predeceased by his father Lon, and is survived by his wife Pat/Vivian, his mother Edith (Tony), sister Carol, brother Gary (Lisa), sons, Gordon (Begonia), Axxel, Jim (Susan), daughters, Michelle (Billy), Kristina (Chris), Nicole (Marty), Emily, 11 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Hugh will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a colourful person, who made friends everywhere he went and was always living his dreams. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army. neil bardal inc 949-2200
