Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUBERT DREGER Hubert, or Hubie, as he was affectionately called by his friends, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2007, at Oakview Place in Winnipeg at the age of 69, after a brief illness. Hubert was born on August 15, 1938, in Placiszewo, Poland, and at the age of nine he immigrated to Canada, and Winnipeg, with his parents, Rudolf and Adelgunde Dreger. He lived most of his life in Winnipeg, attending elementary school in the west end of the city, and high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Hubert served with the Canadian Armed Forces for several years during the 1960s. After being discharged from the Forces, he threw himself wholeheartedly into his chosen profession of computer programming. He received a B.Sc. (Computer Science Major) from the University of Manitoba in 1979. But even prior to receiving his degree, Hubert had programmed for several major companies including Honeywell Data Services, Manufacturer's Life, and Statistics Canada in Toronto and Ottawa. After receiving his degree, he worked for Air Canada, the Manitoba Government's Water Resources Branch, and Comcheq, all of Winnipeg. Hubie loved the games of curling and golf, and had his own unique way of approaching both activities. This different approach seemed to work, as he was quite successful at both sports, winning many trophies and awards over the span of more than 40 years. Hubert was predeceased by both parents. He is survived by two sisters, Elly Schattschneider of White Rock, BC, and Doris Miske of Osoyoos, BC, and a nephew George Schattschneider of Dartmouth, NS. Cremation has taken place and, according to his wishes, Hubert's ashes are to be spread at one of his favourite golf courses. If anyone wishes additional information, Hubert's friend Patrick Hailley may be contacted in Winnipeg at 837-7920.
