WILLIAM JOHN (JACK) HISLOP With deep sorrow the family announces the passing of their father, grandfather and dear friend Jack, on October 22, 2007 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Jack is survived by his children Markham (Jo Ann) of Calgary, Dave (Roxanne) of Winnipeg and Tracy (Kevin Lee) of Deslisle, SK, his first wife Marion of Saskatoon, his sister Agnes of Red Deer and sister Jean of Calgary also his grandchildren who he loved and talked dearly of at great lengths Brandi, Jude, Vanessa, Marlee and Lauren. Jack was born in Anerley, Sask. November 10, 1924. The Depression years forced them to move north to the Meath Park area, where growing up on the family homestead and working with his father, Bill, who was a blacksmith and farmer, Jack showed an aptitude for all things mechanical. He turned his love of mechanics into his career as an automotive technician, working for a variety of automobile dealerships in the Prince Albert area. In the early 1950's he met and married Marion Stewart and together they owned and operated their own service station. In 1964 the family moved to Thompson, where Jack soon gained employment with Manitoba Hydro. In 1971 they moved north to Gillam, where Jack became the maintenance supervisor for the Kettle Rapids and Kelsey Generating Stations. He continued in this position until his retirement from Hydro in 1985. At this time he moved to Winnipeg, however he never really retired as in his spare time he drove courier five days a week and because of his love of cars, the other two days were spent working in a couple of local garages. Jack always enjoyed sports especially watching his children and grandchildren play hockey, baseball, curling, soccer, etc. and he was particularly proud of his hockey game in which he played with his two sons at the grand age of 53. In 1992 Jack married Joan Smith and he finally learned to relax and settled in Winnipeg. Jack and Joan loved to spend summers at their trailer along the Winnipeg River in Pinawa. After Joan's passing in 2004 Jack made Pinawa his permanent home, where he made many friends, who all loved his sense of humor and easy going nature. Jack will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends. Special thanks to the Staff at the Pinawa Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital who worked so diligently and compassionately with Grampa to make him comfortable during his times of need. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from the Pinawa Community Centre, Vanier Avenue, Pinawa, Manitoba with Rev. Ken Anstie officiating. If friends so desire memorial donation in his name may be made to the Manitoba Heart Stroke Foundation. RUSSELL'S of Beausejour, Manitoba are n care of arrangements.
