BERNHARD RESCHKE Peacefully, on October 23, 2007, my dear husband passed into the arms of the Lord. Bernhard (Ben) was born on October 28, 1919, in Florufke / Ukraine. During the war years, the family was forced to leave the homestead, fleeing to Germany, where he worked on a farm, later in 1948 he joined the police force. In 1953 he and his mother immigrated to Winnipeg to join Ben's sister, Alice. Ben worked as a cabinetmaker. In 1966 he started work as a woodworking instructor at The Society for Manitobans with Disabilities until his retirement in 1982. Ben enjoyed his 11-year membership in the brass band of the Winnipeg Rifles, where he made many friends. His loving wife, Inge, shared his life for 47 years until his passing. Together they spent 37 wonderful summers at the cottage in Grand Marais. Family and friends were always welcome and had a great time. It was there, where he could pursue his love of woodworking. Many of his creations still grace our homes and gardens. Throughout his years he overcame many illnesses, including cancer with the support of his loving wife. Ben is survived by his wife Inge, her daughter Melitta (Jutta) Kreber and grandson Oliver Kreber, his sister Alice Ratschinsky and her daughters Ardice (Willie) Baziuk and Lois (Wayne) Murphy and their children. He also leaves behind two sons and their families in Russia, as well as many relatives in Canada and Germany and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, one son and son-in-law plus numerous brother-in-laws. We would like to thank the GB3 Ward at the Health Sciences Centre for their wonderful care. According to Ben's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Ben's life on October 29, 2007 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Care Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
