RUTH STAJER (nee MANDELMAN) April 2, 1926 - October 18, 2007 The family of Ruth Stajer sadly announces her death on October 18, 2007 at the age of 81. Ruth died peacefully with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Paul Stajer. Ruth will always be remembered with love by her children, Paulette and Lorne Weiss, Rena and Barry Shenkarow, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rebecca and Ike Bernstein, grandchildren, Carrie and Ross Ransby, Mira and Matthew Narvey, Richard Weiss and Allison Weiss, and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Shirley Sue and Simon. Ruth, the eldest of three children, was born in Jedlnja, Poland. She survived the Holocaust and was liberated from Auschwitz in 1945. She met Paul, the love of her life, in Bergen Belsen. They were married in Paris in 1947 and later immigrated to Winnipeg in 1950. Whether it was helping out with the family business or spending countless hours in the kitchen cooking dinner, Ruth was always dedicated to making a better life for her family. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of family and tradition. Ruth was respected and adored by her family and friends. She will always be remembered as being a true survivor and we will miss her dearly. The family wishes to thank Dr. Joshua, Dr. George and the staff on the 5th floor of the Grace Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion. Funeral services were held on October 21, 2007 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were Lorne Weiss, Barry Shenkarow, Marvin Bernstein, Richard Weiss, Ross Ransby, and Matthew Narvey. Honourary Pallbearers were Ike Bernstein and Abram Baum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or to the charity of your choice.
