AL VERBLING Peacefully and surrounded by family, Al passed away on October 21, 2007. Al leaves to mourn him his beloved wife of 46 years, Hilda and daughters, Lisa (Darrell) and Tara (John). He also leaves his sister-in-law Cathy, who he loved as his own sister. Al was employed by the City of Winnipeg for 34 years prior to his retirement. He had a circle of close friends, some of whom he had known since childhood. Al made the most of his retirement years - summers golfing with his buddies and doing endless house projects and winters enjoying weekly lunches with friends. Al enjoyed the simple pleasures in life the way few people do. A good joke, funny emails, crossword puzzles, music, cuddling his precious dogs, or just sitting out in the sunshine gave him great joy. Al always put other people first, and he lived for his family. We had so many happy times together - summers at the cottage, yearly vacations to warm destinations and many family celebrations. Al was the type of man who would rush the family outside to watch a beautiful sunset, and he taught us to always look for the wonder in everything. He was completely selfless and could be counted on in any situation. He helped us rescue stray animals, tended to our houses and always made sure we were taken care of. Whether it was a broken appliance or broken heart, Dad was there to help in any way he could. He allowed us to make our own mistakes without judging; he celebrated our successes and told us often how proud he was of us. Most of all, he showed us by example how to be kind, generous and respectful towards everyone we meet in life. Even in the face of illness, Al was courageous and bore his pain without complaint. He maintained his positive outlook and sense of humour to the end. The family would like to thank Dr. Casey Woo for his years of care, as well as the staff of Riverview for their compassionate treatment. As per Al's wishes, a private service has been held with family and close friends to celebrate his life. Donations in Al's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be gratefully accepted. Thank you, Al, for sharing your life with us. It was an honour to have known such a wonderful example of a human being. Good night sweet prince, flights of angels sing thee to thy rest Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
