WILLIAM (RINGO) RINGACH With great sadness we announce the passing of Bill (Ringo) Ringach at the Health Sciences Centre on October 27, 2007, at the age of 65 years. Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pat; as well as his sisters, Dorothy (Mike) Macey, Elaine Richter and his brother Donald (Joceline), and their families. He is also survived by Pat's father Walter Markham; brothers, Mike (Nelda) Markham, Clancy (Andrea) Markham and sister Shannon (Stan) Miller and their families, as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his father Bill in 1988 and his mother Elsie in 1998 and brother-in-law Kelly Richter. Ringo worked for CNR in the Transcona shops retiring in April 1995. Prior to joining CN in 1968 he had worked for CIBC and the Grain Exchange. Ringo was an avid sports fan and participant. He played goal for many hockey teams in Winnipeg, sometimes playing every day of the week before finally hanging up his skates at the age of 40. At 16 years of age Ringo took up umpiring baseball under the tutelage of Sam Tascona Over the years he was Chief Umpire for many leagues throughout Manitoba before his illness forced his retirement in 2006. Ringo was very proud of being chosen to umpire in the 1967 Pan Am Games at the young age of 25. To have experienced one of his colourful umpiring games was not to be forgotten. Ringo has left a big hole in the hearts of those he has left behind. Ringo's heart embraced everyone he ever met. No one ever came to him with a request or a problem and was turned away. Ringo's house was Grand Central Station and there was always room for one more person in the kitchen. His hospitality had a style that will always be remembered and cherished. Thanks to Drs. Minuk and Wong, and the nursing staff on GD4 of HSC for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held Thursday November 1, 2007, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral service to be held also at the Chapel on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
