ALFRED (FRED) KAARTINEN 1920 - 2007 Peacefully in his sleep, with his family at his side, Fred Kaartinen passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the age of 87. Leaving to love him forever are his wife of 63 years, Mary, and his children, Alfred and Donna, Gloria and Dennis, Melvin and Lena, Holly and Jack, Robin and Gerry, Rick and Linda. To cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Darrell (Tena), Shelley (Dave), Karen (Allan), Monica (Don), Pam (Mike), Pam (Trent), Melanie (Pierre), Devin (Julie), Michelle (Jason), Marianne (Sean), Lisa (Ian), Jason, Steven, Cheryl, Lloyd and Chris. As well as 14 great-grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by his parents Matthew and Hilda, infant son Rodney, sister Annie, brother Frank and grandson Matthew. Fred (grandpa) was born in the Macross district where he spent his entire life farming and commercial ice fishing on Lake Manitoba. He was also one of the oldest licensed commercial fishermen on Lake Manitoba. Dad truly enjoyed listening to old time music as well as playing several different musical instruments. Grandpa truly enjoyed visits from all his family and friends. He was never happier then when one of his kids came home for a visit. We'll miss his sense of humor, sharp wit and the life lessons that he taught to each of us. The love he left to all of us is forever engraved in our hearts. A private graveside memorial service will be held at the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery with Melanie Kauppila officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad's memory can be made to the Eriksdale Personal Care Home, P.O. Box 130, Eriksdale, MB, R0C 0X0. The family would like extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Eriksdale Personal Care Home for the excellent care given to dad (grandpa) during his stay, and the care and concern shown to family during dad's last days.
