MARJORIE ELIZABETH SIMPSON Marjorie Elizabeth Simpson (nee Manson) passed away peacefully after a lengthy and determined struggle with cancer on October 27, 2007 at Concordia Hospital with her family at her side. She is survived by her loving husband H.W. Stuart Simpson, son Riley, and daughters, Monica (Tim) and Ainslee and brother Lawrie Manson (Susan). She also leaves her sister-in-law Irene, grandchildren, Chantel, Trevor, Blake, and Dana; son-in-law Bill Bage, as well as many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn and Clifton Manson, brother Raymond Manson, and daughter Adrienne Bage. Born in Winnipeg on September 17, 1925, she grew up in Norwood and attended King George School, and Nelson McIntyre Collegiate from which she graduated. On August 21, 1948 Marjorie and Stuart married and settled in East Kildonan, where they raised their family. Marjorie was a multi-talented and dynamic person. One of her passions was synchronized swimming, in which she was involved for over 50 years as a competitor, coach, and judge. Her expertise in, and devotion to the sport led to her being recognized as one of the most respected international judges in the world. Travelling worldwide, Marjorie judged many meets, including the 1986 and 1991 Commonwealth Games, and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. She was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. An avid painter, Marjorie created many works of art. She loved to read as well, and could often be seen sitting in her living room absorbed in a book. Marjorie was also very knowledgeable about current events. One of her most precious pastimes, however, was spending time at the lake with her grandchildren. The family wishes to express many thanks for the care Marjorie received from Dr. D. Johnson, the nurses and staff on the third floor of Concordia Hospital, as well as from Dr. Pat Harris and the Oncology Department. The funeral service will be held on November 2 at 2:00 p.m.. at Klassen Funeral Home. Interment will be at Green Acres Cemetery beside her daughter Adrienne, at a later date.
