SOPHIE BASCHUK Sophie Baschuk (nee Galay) of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on October 28, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Sophie was born at Moose Bay, Manitoba, to Steve and Mary Galay on October 16, 1923. She received her education in Moose Bay. After her schooling, during the Second World War time, she went to Toronto to work until she was called back to the family farm to care for her ailing Mother. In 1944 she went to Flin Flon, MB where she married Nick Baschuk on January 27, 1945. They lived in Flin Flon for over 40 years raising three sons, and retiring in 1986. Sophie and Nick moved to the Ferndale Apartments in Dauphin, MB in 1996. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Nick, her parents, her brothers, Roman and Mike; her sister, Annie, and her son Christopher. She is survived by her sons Ron (Anita) Baschuk of Creighton, SK, Russell (Norma) Baschuk of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Nettie Baschuk of Winnipeg, grandchildren Stephen, Kevin, Jessica, Matthew, Colleen (Craig), Brent (Tara), as well as her brother Dan (Judy) Galay of Roblin, her sisters Kate Smadella of Rorketon, and Nellie (Ernie) Jebsen of Creighton, SK as well as numerous friends and extended family. Prayers will be offered Friday evening November 2 at 7:00 p.m. from Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel, Dauphin, Manitoba. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. from Dauphin's Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection. Rev. Oleg Bodnarski will officiate and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Sophie to CancerCare Manitoba.
