He was predeceased by his loving wife Keta, sister Betty, brother-in-law Ron, and mother Catherine. He will be sadly missed by his three daughters and sons-in-law; Kathryn Mitchell Loewen and Russell Loewen; Margaret Mitchell; Sheila and David Mitchell-Dueck, and his loving grandchildren; Andrew, Elizabeth, Anne, Sarah, Joshua, Aaron, Jenna, and Leah. Doug was born to Catherine Walker and Archibald Mitchell in Barrhead, Scotland, December 4, 1929. He articled as a CA in Scotland, and practiced in the USA and Canada. Doug married Keta in 1959, moving to Vernon, BC, where they had their family. Dad's work led him from Vernon, gradually moving east where we finally settled in Winnipeg. Doug left his mark in Manitoba working for the Leaf Rapids Development Corporation and the ARC Authority of Manitoba, which developed the Red River Corridor. Doug was an active member of Broadway-First Baptist Church. His faith was important to him, and carried him throughout his adult life. Dad's passion was music. He found great joy singing with his family, in ensembles, and choirs. He had a real eclectic love of music that extended beyond choral: jazz, rock, opera, gospel, classical, folk and blues. Doug enjoyed his Friday lunches at the Norwood. After Mom's death last year, Dad continued to travel widely; Calgary, Ontario, the Galapagos Islands, and Cuba. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Broadway-First Baptist Church, Honeyman and Walnut. Luncheon to follow. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many caring staff at Grace Cancer Care, and Riverview Health Centre 3 East. Thanks to his Doctors; Atwal, Harris, Chowdhury, and St. Goddard. Remembrances may be made in Doug's memory to the Haiti Children's Home, in care of Grace Community Fellowship, 5850 Kerrywood Dr., Red Deer , AB, T4N 4X6, or Manitoba Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
