IRENE LOUISE MOSTOWY
Date of Passing: Oct 29, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE LOUISE MOSTOWY Peacefully (suddenly) at Peace Arch Hospital, Irene Louise Mostowy, of South Surrey, BC, on October 29, 2007, following a long, courageous struggle with failing health. Irene was born in Alburg, Vermont, and shortly thereafter, came to Canada with her parents to reside most of her young years in Foleyet, Ontario. Irene was predeceased by her first husband, John Leslie MacLelland; her mother and father, Elizabeth and James Dasti; brothers, Albert, James and Joseph; sisters, Geraldine, Violet and Christine. She is survived by loving husband Sam, of 52 years; sisters, Shirley Dasti of North Bay and Lorraine Brock of Kelowna; brothers, Raymond of Sudbury, Douglas of Oshawa and John of Timmins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. Irene and Sam were married in Winnipeg in 1956 and enjoyed nearly 40 years in their original home on Kenneth Street. Their family was the families and their children of the neighbourhood and the relationship has lasted these many years. Sam and Irene moved to Surrey upon retirement and continued to enjoy travel to many parts of North America with the Shrine Groups and Daughters of the Nile, but their soft spot was Hawaii and they made a number of visits to that island. Irene's major enjoyment was her art, and she has oil paintings hanging in homes throughout Canada . . . a painting of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Winnipeg hangs in the Archives in Ottawa . . . Irene's life was full of loving and caring for those in need. She left her second year of nursing training at North Bay General to help her mother with the family at home. With the knowledge she had, she was on-call to the entire neighbourhood to either help deliver babies, tend the sick or transport injured people to hospital. Words cannot express our sorrow at this time, but we know that she is now at peace and no longer struggling as she did on this earth . . . Cremation has taken place. No flowers. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice. Celebration of her life will take place at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28 Ave., Surrey, on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. Phone 604-536-6522.
