ELMA FRIESEN (nee REIMER) January 23, 1927 - October 27, 2007 Elma Friesen (nee Reimer) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2007, after a 30-year battle with cancer at the age of 80 years. Elma was born on January 23, 1927, in Gnadenfeld, MB, near Gretna, MB, to Kathrina and John Reimer. She married Isaac (Ike) Friesen, her husband of 53 years, on October 30, 1947. Elma took her nurses training in Winnipeg, MB, working for Cowin Steel as a bookkeeper and resided there until they relocated to Calgary, AB, in December of 1996. Elma and Ike were members the Hong Kong Veterans Association and maintained close friendships with the Winnipeg Veteran's and their wives. Elma enjoyed her vacations in Hawaii and then Weslaco, Texas. She loved sewing and knitting for her daughter and grandchildren. Elma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nancie and Ronald Ambrozy; and two grandchildren, Kristin and Adam, all of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her brothers, Stan, Ed, and Jake Reimer. She will be also sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law Dave; and sister-in-law Susie. Elma was predeceased by her husband Ike Friesen in 2001, sisters, Helen Reimer and Jean Lanchbery, and her brother-in-law Gerry Lanchbery. A visitation was held at McINNIS HOLLOWAY'S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle, N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery (3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB) on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
