Dan and I grew up a few blocks away from one another in Chatham Ontario. While we attended different elementary schools we reconnected at CCI. Dan was clever, charming and a lot of fun. He could be persuasive. He convinced me to act in a readers theatre production at the Thames Theatre and again in a Humber College production of The Marriage Broker. His generosity, and that of his sister Hedy, made it possible to make the move to Toronto to attend college. Dan, Hedy, my wife Mary Rose and I enjoyed many great afternoons at the Red Lion. We lost touch several years ago owing mostly to geography. However, I've often thought of Dan with fondness and appreciate for the special friend he was. - Posted by: Mike Patterson (Friend) on: Feb 28, 2019

Although Dan was at the point of leaving high school and beginning his career as a copy clerk at CBC Toronto in 1969-1971, he was already a strong personality, observant, analytical, creative, a passionate student of human character, yet bursting with an irrepressible sense of humour. But it was his sense of doing the right thing, his social conscience, and a sensitivity that is unusual in an 18-19 year old. I remember late night discussions about philosophy, eastern religions, his volunteering to act several times as navigator for our entry in long-distance car rallies, and enthusiastic participation in Chatham amateur theatre group. Dan was so proud of his Czech heritage, and closely protective of his parents and two sisters. And his Mom DID make the best Christmas food in Chatham. Dan, on the 10 year anniversary of your passing, you are still warmly remembered. - Posted by: Tim Sly, (Pre-CBC friend, Ontario) on: Jun 30, 2017

And co-worker at CBC Radio. Yes - Hortense. My deepest sympathy. How I remember the many smoky early evenings and often later nights at the Media Club when it was packed with refugees from news and music and fledgling web warriors. Oh the laughs and razor sharp commentary from you, Dan. And your sweet soft affinity for banishing melancholy with good conversation. Thank you so much for all of that. - Posted by: Joan Athey (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2007
