GORDON HENRY COOK March 6, 1958 - October 29, 2007 Gordon Cook passed away peacefully on October 29, 2007 at his home in his beloved town of Gimli after a prolonged battle with cancer. Gord was born in Winnipeg on March 6, 1958 as the third child of Adolf and Bernice Cook. He is survived by his brother Dr. Robert Cook, of London, ON and his sister Shirley McDonald (Jack) in Winnipeg. He was extremely proud of his nephews, Ben and Mike Cook, Dan and David Cassie, and his niece, Michelle Hamerla and their many accomplishments. He was especially looking forward to the arrival of Michelle's first baby. He was also proud of step-nephew and niece, John McDonald and Lisa Robson. Gord was raised in the West End and spent most of his life at 406 Victor St. He joined the services at a young age and served for two years. He then went on to work as a security guard for Portage Place and Misericordia Hospital. He worked for 12 years as a dispatcher for CAA Manitoba followed by a two year stint at Russell Metals. Gord unfortunately had a serious bout with cancer two years ago and after surviving, decided to move to the Gimli area and make a fresh start in his life. In Gimli, where both his parents were born and raised, and surrounded by supportive relatives, he felt comfortable and welcome. He was fortunate to make many friends in Gimli, especially John Livadaris of Europa Pizza. John was a great support to Gord in his good health but became especially supportive when his illness reoccurred, for which the family is eternally grateful. Gord loved people and loved to talk and joke with all, in spite of his illness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church on Highway 9 in Gimli. Interment will follow at St.'s Cyril Methodius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E OV9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.

Condolences to everyone -just saw this - Gord was a great guy and a great friend! Gord was my best friend from age 4 to end of grade 4, when we moved away from 432 Victor Street. Many great memories of the neighborhood and hanging out at his home, toy soldiers, sandbox, meccano set, sports, kids roaming the neighborhood etc! For his birthday parties I remember his mom would put nickels (wrapped) inside as an extra treat! The new John M King was opened when we were in Kindergarten and we attended the second term in the new school. Sorry to hear of his passing, he is truly missed! - Posted by: Douglas Aird (Friend) on: Aug 04, 2025
