JOSEPH SHACHTAY Peacefully and surrounded by his family, it is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Husband, Father, Dido and Friend, Joseph Shachtay on October 30, 2007 at the age of 81 after a brief illness with cancer. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nellie of 51 and one half years, four children, Ron (Mary), Donna (Fred), Debbie (Terry), Brian (Sylvie) and eight grandchildren, Tim, Laurie, Jenny, Ashley, Breanne, Ryan, Nathan, Mathew and four brothers, John (Alice), Stan (Emma), Kaz and friend Julie, Nick (Freda), as well as other family members, friends and acquaintances. Dad was predeceased by a son at birth, parents Andrew and Agnes, brothers Mike, Harry, Walter and also a set of twins at birth. Dad was born in Arborg, MB on November 13, 1925. He resided there until he moved to Winnipeg, where he met and married Nellie on July 14, 1956. He worked for the City of Winnipeg (Works and Operations) for 38 years, many of those as a Foreman. Dad was well known in the hockey community, attending hockey games of his grandchildren as well as numerous other sports. The family would like to thank Dr. Husarewycz and staff at S.O.G.H. fifth floor, unit two and Dr. Lipshetz and staff of H.S.C. for all their care and compassion. We would like to extend a special thanks to his brother Kaz for being there for him day or night. As per Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk officiating.
