Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA INGHAM November 3, 1914 - October 31, 2007 On Wednesday, October 31, 2007, three days before her 93rd birthday, Hilda passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 92 years. Remaining to forever cherish Hilda's memory are daughter, Margaret Oxtoby; son, Martin (Marsha) Ingham; grandchildren, Carolyn Oxtoby, Julie (David) Pletz, Susanne and Sarah Ingham; great-grandchildren, Amy and Jennifer Pletz and Steven Ingham; brother Jack; and sisters, Edith of England and Maureen Thornton of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1974; son-in-law, Kenneth Oxtoby in 1984; brothers-in-law Eric Thornton and George Haigh; as well as nephew Colin Haigh. Hilda was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. She was the eldest of five children and loved to help to take care of them. She started work at 14 in a weaving factory and during the Second World War, wove khaki fabric for British Soldiers Uniforms until 1944. Hilda then worked at Rolls Royce munitions factory in Coventry making parts for planes. After the war ended, her son Martin was born in 1946. Mum came to Canada in 1958 with her family and had several jobs ending with a job at DOT. They returned to England in 1961 due to her husband's illness. Hilda worked as an office manager until November 1974. In 1987, she returned to Canada to be with her two children and families. Hilda loved travelling to Europe, Hawaii, cruising the Caribbean, touring the States and Canada with her family. Mum loved strolling with WAG strollers, she enjoyed the symphony, Ballet, theatre and baking. In compliance with Hilda's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Many thanks to the staff at Misericordia Interim Care on Cornish 2. Also, fourth floor nurses at the Victoria General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hilda's memory to the charity of one's choice.
