Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA LARTER Barbara Larter, wife of Edward Larter, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2007 after a lengthy illness at the age of 82. Barb is lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, her three sons, Allan (Judie) Larter, Mark (Shawna) Larter and John Larter and her beloved grandchildren, Michael, Christine, Justin and Alanna Larter, her brother Raymond Stanley, nephew Marland (Marilyn) Larter and niece Lil (Sherman) Dunk. She was predeceased by her father Herbert Stanley, her mother Jane, and her two sisters-in-law, Margaret Larter and May Stanley. Barbara was born on June 24, 1925 in Crewe, Cheshire, England. She met her husband-to-be during the Second World War at which time he was in service overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. At war's end, Barb was one of the thousands of war-brides who immigrated to their new homes in Canada and beyond. She adjusted to Canadian ways quickly and with a smile and outgoing personality; she established lasting friendships wherever she went. Barb was a homemaker and her hobbies were many. She loved sewing and designing her own clothes. Some of her fondest moments were spent at a sewing machine finishing off some new creation that she had previously sketched out. Somehow, between her household duties and looking after the needs of her family, she found time for another of her favourite hobbies - oil and water color painting. She derived much joy in completing a painting and then donating it to either friends or to a worthy cause. Outside of the home, Barb's artistic eye led her to the detailed planning of her flower beds each year which she maintained with loving care throughout the summer. The family wishes to thank the staff of the St. Norbert Care Home for the friendship and loving care provided throughout the years of Barb's illness with Alzheimer's. Also to the Cancer Units of the Victoria Hospital and the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion provided by the professional staff during Barb's three bouts with cancer. The many acts of kindness received by Barb and her family throughout her time of need are deeply appreciated. Thank you - we will always remember. Now rest in peace my love The Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. is in charge of arrangements where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are welcome to donate to either the Alzheimer Society or to the Cancer Society of Manitoba.
