KENNETH ROY FINCH (continued...) A very important aspect of Dad's life was his dedication and devotion to his community. He was a visionary and could always see the need for improvement for the betterment of all. He fought diligently for the causes he believed, never backing down when controversy arose. He could always see the big picture. He truly cared about people and wanted to improve their lives in any way he could. Dad's community volunteer involvement encompasses his whole community. Dad and Mom were lifelong devoted members of the St. Phillips Anglican Church in Hodgson. Dad was the Church Warden for many years and worked tirelessly to make sure all was always taken care of. Renovating of the church, cutting the grass and making sure it was warm on Sunday mornings just to name a few. Dad's lifelong commitment to the Hodgson Community Cemetery is evident. Dad was devoted to the upkeep, improvement and preservation of the Cemetery. Dad saw a need for Community Senior Housing. At the official opening of the first phase of the Early Settlers Lodge he commented to government officials, he's looking forward to getting started on additional units. They responded by commenting there are no plans in the work, and didn't think that would happen. A few years later Phase Two of the Early Settlers Lodge was complete with an additional eight units. Dad was happy and relieved that now there would be a place to live for so many of the people in his life he cared about. He did not, however, ever believe that there would be a need for him to live there. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #158 was a very important part of Dad's life. Again his loyalty, dedication and involvement were lifelong. From board meetings to unplugging of toilets, he was there. His devotion to the cause was unwavering. He did anything he could to help his fellow Veterans. We salute you, Dad. When you pass through Hodgson, there are many places where Dad's hands and heart have been. The Hodgson Community Sports Grounds is evident of that. Dad was steadfast in the cleanup, development and maintenance of the grounds. He built and donated the swings and teeter totter and kept up with the maintenance. Just this summer, he replaced the swing seats. It brought joy to his heart when he would see children playing on the swings, even more joy when they would tell him they are very happy they have a place to play. Dad saw a need for a community Bill Board. He built one and set it up on Public Property just outside the Hodgson Post Office. He was still maintaining it this summer. He felt it was important that members of the community have a place to advertise special events. He hopes someone will take care of it. There are so many more causes that Dad was involved in and was passionate about, but they are too numerous to mention. A book could be written. The most important thing in Dad's life were people. He always took the time to visit, to call, he always kept in touch. The most important people in his life was his family. He loved us all deeply. He cared about us, worried about us and was proud of us. Dad and Mom instilled in us their high morals and values. They taught us to always respect others, to be kind to people and to help people in any way we can. Dad's most important person was his sweet Marie. They loved each other unconditionally. Their devotion to each other was unwavering. Dad and Mom celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary last year. Dad's grandchildren, Jennifer and Stacey and great-grandson Isaiah were also very important to him. He loved to take them fishing, showing them just the right way to catch that fish. Dad loved them very much and was so proud of them. As a person Dad was passionate, articulate, intelligent, determined, sensitive, driven, caring, stubborn and shy. Left to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Marie. Daughter Linda Finch, daughter Cindy Obszarski; son-in-law Robert Obszarski; grandchildren, Jennifer de Delley and Stacey de Delley; great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Baby and very special person in his life, Parker John Lanigan. Many relatives and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Muriel (Packer) Finch; brothers, William Finch and Jack Finch; children, Bonnie, Glennie and two infant daughters. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m., at the M.M.F. Hall, in Hodgson, Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be private and take place at a later date, according to Dad's wishes, on a warm summer day. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation may be sent to the Hodgson Community Cemetery, in care of Linda Baker, Treasurer, General Delivery, Hodgson, Manitoba, R0C 1N0. Dad was devoted to the upkeep and preservation of the Cemetery of which his commitment and involvement was lifelong. Dad would be honored to have donations, made in his memory, sent to a cause that he was so passionate about. Love you, forever and always, Dad. See you later.
