WILLIAM (BILL) JANZ William (Bill) Janz, born September 10, 1936, in Drumheller, Alberta, died peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer, in his home on November 2, 2007. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, in February of this year. He is survived and missed by his children, Cindy (Steve), Wendy (Gil), Elizabeth (Jason), Brenda and Frank (Andrea); and grandchildren, Christy, Angel, Renee, Luc, Katayun, Pareesa and Adrienne and Leah. Bill had an interesting and colourful youth growing up in Drumheller. He regaled his children and friends with many engaging tales of rolling down hoodoos and collecting dinosaur bones in the valley. His brief stint boxing in the RCMP provided him with rich fodder for more tales. But, taking him away from all this was Helen. When he met her, he settled in Winnipeg to raise five children. He worked with the Gas Company for 35 years, starting with the Greater Winnipeg Gas Company, changing to ICG and then Centra Gas. He liked to brag that he changed companies three times in five years without ever changing his chair. One of his favourite seasons was Christmas, when he played Santa Claus for the Gas Company's Christmas parties and Santa in the Manitoba Hydro Festival of Lights parade. May long weekend was another highlight of his year, when he joined a bunch of his buddies to drink, fish and play cards. Bill was always very proud of his family, supporting children and grandchildren in all endeavors. He loved to relate accomplishments of his family to his friends and extended family. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 19 St. Mark's Place. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Cancer Care Manitoba, his family physicians and the nurses and HCAs with Palliative Care Homecare.
