TOM MILLER With his family by his side Tom Miller passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Carman Memorial Hospital. He was 78 years old. He was predeceased by his wife Loreen in 1995, and his daughter Joyce in 2007. Dad was born January 22, 1929. He married Loreen in 1949. Together they raised six children. He will always be remembered by his two daughters and three sons, Ann (Bob) Laing, Glenn (Alice), George (Mona), Brian (Kim) and Helen (Rod) Savage; grandchildren, Dennis (Lori), Lori (Chris), Carrie, Chris (Courtney), Erin (Ryan), Curtis (Tamara), Amy, Bryce, Dean, Kelly, and Mark, and all of the great- grand-children. He also leaves his brother Jim (Marion); sisters, Hazel Scharien and Wilma (Vic) Furniss; sisters-in-law, Grace Bobrowski, Gladys Cochran, and Marie Palmer. Dad grew up on the family farm in Elm Creek. He started his heavy equipment career with Baragar Construction. Over the years he worked for Sigfusson building winter roads, for Mannix Construction building the Mackenzie Highway and Ramsay-Bird building the Winnipeg floodway. In 1963 he worked on the DEW LINE in the northern arctic until 1974. In 1975 he started working for the Department of Highways in Carman. He retired in 1990. Dad's whole life revolved around family. He loved to go camping enjoying the outdoors. This was also seen in the time he spent at the farm. Dancing and music were a big part of his life with mom. His favorite dance was the Red River Jig and a good polka. Dad was a keen spectator of sports, especially hockey. Even when he was away working he always knew the score of the boys hockey games. In the last few years dad spent a lot of time watching television westerns and Lone Star were a favourite. Funeral services will be held from St. Andrew's United Church in Elm Creek, MB on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Elm Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
