Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySISTER APOLLINE HUTLET o.s.u. (SISTER VICTORINE) Sister Apolline entered Eternal Life, November 4, 2007 in St. Boniface Hospital after a short but complicated bout with cancer. Sister Apolline was born July 20, 1921, the daughter of Victorine Malo and August Hutlet of St. Alphonse, MB. She was intensely proud of her Belgian and French Canadian heritage and very happy to have been able to visit distant relatives in her ancestral home in Halanzy, south Belgium. Sister Apolline was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Augustine and Albertine; and brothers Adrien, Andre, Celestin and Laurent; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as members of The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk. In addition to members of her Religious Community, she is survived by her sisters, Sister Clemence sjsh., Cecile, Irene and Yvette; and brothers, Etienne and Lionel; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Sister Apolline was very deeply spiritual and unassuming, always ready to be of service where ever she saw the need or was asked for help. She had a quiet wisdom and balance in her counsel. She met with great deal of success in her teaching years her philosophy being to encourage her students to think and then lead them into solutions. She had an abiding respect for all people. Her education was begun at Alphonse School then directed by Les Soeurs Chanoinesses, with senior high school completed at Ste. Marie School, in Bruxelles, Manitoba, under the direction of The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk. In July of 1938 she entered the Ursuline Sisters' Novitiate in Blue Point, Long Island, N.Y. After her Novitiate training and having taught briefly in USA, Sister Apolline returned to Bruxelles, where she will be well remembered for her years of high school teaching in Ste. Marie High School and later in Mariapolis Collegiate, in both of which she served as Principal. Sister Apolline completed her formal teaching years in the Notre Dame Collegiate in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba. In 1991, Sister responded to an inner call to go to the Missions. She left Canada in April of 1991 to join her Belgian and Congolese Ursuline Sisters in Goma, D.R. of Congo in East Africa. There she taught French and English to the junior members of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk. This proved to be a life-changing experience for her in a Third World country so in need of capable and dedicated teachers. This experience, unhappily, was cut short due to the political unrest in both Congo and neighbouring Rwanda. The Canadian Government, then, recalled all their Nationals and made provision for them to return to Canada immediately. Sister Apolline re-joined her Religious Community in Winnipeg where they are now residents at Residence Despins and where she will be missed. Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday November 7. Both services will be held in the Chapel, 3rd Floor of Residence Despins, 151 Despins St. Interment will follow on Thursday, November 8 in Bruxelles, MB at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations in Sister Apolline's name would be appreciated to, Les Amis de Taché Friends Inc. Just remembering Sister Victorine and all that she offered at Saint Marie Bruxelles when I was a boarded student there for my Grades 7, 8 and 9. This was in 1960-1962. I do not know how long the sisters wore the habit but I can remember very well her rimless glasses and strict but caring ways. Very spiritual and very sincere.. with a smile waiting to happen.
