Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARI CHAND BAHL May 27, 1925 November 4, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hari Chand Bahl, deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend. Peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2007 early morning after having a minor stroke a few weeks ago, Hari Chand Bahl, at the age of 82 passed away with his family around him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sarla Rani of 59 years; and his children Manju (Harry Malik), Subhash (Poyie), Raj (Pramilia) and Kushal. Hari Chand is also survived by his two younger brothers in India. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Mala, Anita, Navin, Kabuli (Vicky), Ankit and Kiran and his only great-grandchild Sonia; and his many nephews and nieces in Canada and India. Hari Chand was born and raised in Multan, India. He got his early education at Punjab University, where he got his Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Economics. The family moved to New Delhi in 1947, after the partition of India. He then enrolled in University of Delhi to do his Masters in Economics. Hari Chand was a very highly educated, learned, bright and intelligent individual. He then joined the Ministry of Agriculture India, in the capacity of Research Analyst. While working with the Ministry of Agriculture, he decided to further his education and did his Masters in Mathematics, Statistics and his Law Degree. He was married in 1948 to Sarla Rani and in 1949, they were blessed with their first child Manju, lovingly known as Rani, followed by Subhash, Raj and Kushal. While he was raising his family in Delhi, in 1969 he came to Winnipeg, Canada as Agriculture Economist through CIDA. He stayed in Canada until 1971. During this time he brought his son Subhash and his nephew Deepak to Canada. In 1976 Indian Government sent him to Afghanistan to help set up the Ministry of Agriculture. While in Afghanistan, in 1978 he was approached by the UN to do some research projects. In 1981, he retired from his position from the UN and moved to Winnipeg to join his family. In Winnipeg he operated a small grocery store to keep himself busy. Hari Chand was a life member of Hindu Senior Centre and Hindu Society of Manitoba. Hari Chand lived his life to the fullest. All of his friends and acquaintances will miss him. He loved reading and volunteered in Afghanistan as a promoter of breastfeeding the children. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Salem, nurses and all the staff on fifth floor at Seven Oaks Hospital. Family also extends their thank you to officiating priest and friend Dr. Atish Maniar. Family wishes to extend a very special thank you to all of the relatives and friends for visiting, phoning and enjoyed being with and talking to people. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd followed by Shanti Path at 7:00 p.m. at New Hindu Temple, 999 St. Annes Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hari Chand's memory to Hindu Society of Manitoba for new Mandir fund.
