ANNIE CHYZY With her family at her side on Saturday, November 3, 2007, Annie Chyzy aged 88 years passed away at the Arborg and District Health Centre. Survived by sons Nick (Emma); George (Judy); son-in-law Ken Lichti; grandchildren Denis, Dean, Deanna, Nicholas, Curtis, Anthony. Predeceased by her husband Anton (1980); daughter Margaret Lichti (2002); brother Nick Smolyn (1946); sister Mary Bojek (1985); stepbrother Paul Wowk (2001); stepsister Olga Wowk (2002). Annie was born to Peter and Ewdokia on February 9, 1919 in Troy, New York. She was only two months old when her father was killed in an accident. Two years later her mother remarried and in the same year returned to Poland and settled there for eight years. In 1929 the family moved to Winnipeg. Later Annie worked at the St. Boniface Hospital where she met Tony Chyzy. On May 12, 1945 they were married and that fall they moved to Arborg, where she lived until her passing. She loved to garden and spent many hours tending to her flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed pickling, canning, picking mushrooms, crocheting, and knitting. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for many of her family and friends who came over to visit. No one ever left hungry. Mom was very active, not only would she walk up town to pick up the mail or groceries everyday, she would cut her grass on her large lot using a push lawn mower, right up to a year ago. Annie was a strong member of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg. Annie remained proudly independent her entire life. She was strong willed and lived on her own right up to the end. A special thank you to Dr. Beukes and staff at the Arborg Hospital for their care and compassion. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Arborg. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home, in care of arrangements.
