JAMES LORNE MCKILLOP 1924 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim McKillop at the St. Boniface Palliative Care unit on Wednesday, November 7 at the age of 83. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Eileen (Brown) and his daughters Barbara (Dave) Hollyoake and Iris (Bill) Goertzen, his grandchildren Chris and Jeff (Lori) Hollyoake and Kyle and Cody Goertzen, his great-grandchildren Alex and Brittany, his brother-in-law Gordon Brown and many nieces and nephews who all held a very special place in his heart. Jim was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Bertha McKillop, two brothers Archie and Murray and one sister Edna McEwen. Jim was born in 1924 at Dauphin, the youngest of a family of four, the son of Lorne D. McKillop and Bertha E. McKillop. He took his elementary schooling at the Dauphin Plains rural school and his high school in Dauphin. In 1943 Jim joined the RCAF and became an air gunner stationed in Northern England with the RCAF Bomber Command. Following discharge in 1945 Jim took up farming north of Dauphin. He married Eileen Brown in 1950 and both daughters were born on their farm. In 1960 Jim became employed by the Federal Farm Credit Corporation starting in Grandview and relocating to Dauphin in 1962. In 1984 he retired from FCC and took up farming again for approximately 9 years. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbour. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be sorely missed. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Riverside Evergreen Chapel in Dauphin on Monday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Lung Association or the Cancer Society. When we saw you sleeping So calm and free of pain We would not wish you back to earth To suffer once again You've left us precious memories, Your love will be our guide You live on through your children, You're always by our side It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone For part of us went with you On the day God called you home
