Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD WILF MATHESON June 7, 1916 - November 7, 2007 Wilf, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 7 with his family by his side, 91 years young. He is survived by his loving family, son Wayne and wife Leslie of Victoria, daughter Linda and husband Gerald of Delta, BC; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Joey, Meredith and Andrew of Victoria, Jennifer of Australia and Courtney and Kris of Delta, BC; his sister Myrtle Nicholson of Winnipeg; his nieces Arlene and husband Gaylen and family, Diane and husband Michael and family and Sue and husband Ron and his brother-in-law Charles Hooey of Winnipeg. Wilf was born June 7, 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He enjoyed a varied working life first in retail with his father, operating Matheson's Confectionery and later working for the Manitoba Provincial Government, eventually becoming the Recorder of Vital Statistics for the province of Manitoba, a position he held for 16 years until his retirement in 1975. In his retirement, Wilf busied himself with various hobbies; oil painting, gardening, baking chocolate chip cookies for everyone near and dear to him and doing lunch at the Langley Seniors' Centre on a weekly basis. He commented often about how blessed he was to have good health, dear friends, wonderful neighbours and a loving family. Wilf will be sadly missed by his family and many dear friends but always remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his amazing sense of humour! The staff and residents of Langley Gardens - Village Square, Wilf's new home for this past year. Your friendship and compassion enriched his final months immensely. A memorial service to celebrate Wilf's life will be held at St. Andrew's-Newton Presbyterian Church, 7147 - 124th Street, Surrey, BC, Friday, November 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Langley S.P.C.A. or charity of your choice.
