JEAN ELIZABETH GUNN Peacefully, we announce the passing of our adored mother, grandmother and dear friend on Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Jean is survived by her daughters Arlie Phillips (Glen) of Vancouver and Heather Turk (Ted) of Winnipeg. Also remembering and missing their Gram are Evan, Jamie, Kathleen and Leah. Jean is also very much missed by her youngest sister Thora Smaller of Toronto as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband Hugh Harrison Gunn in 2001, her parents and her sister Ruth Smith. Jean was born on Easter, April 8, 1917 in Winnipeg, the first daughter of Arthur Edward Stunden and Kathleen Douglas (Adair) Stunden. Jean grew up in River Heights in Winnipeg, attended Gordon Bell and Kelvin High Schools graduating in 1933 at the age of 16, having skipped two grades of elementary school. During her teen years, Jean and several of her Girl Guide friends formed The Girls Sewing Club which continued throughout their adult lives. Jean met Hugh through the St. Andrew's Church Young Peoples Club and they were married on Boxing Day in 1942. Jean had many friends in Winnipeg and was active in the community. Jean was a member of John Black Memorial United Church for 56 years. She belonged to the United Church Women's Group 8 and volunteered with teaching at Vacation School with the Messengers and Explorers. In 1974, Jean became secretary of the John Black Church General Board. Jean was involved with the East Kildonan Kiwanis Ladies taking on roles as president and secretary treasurer. Jean belonged to several Bridge Clubs and curled in the Rossmere Ladies League. Jean will be remembered for her enthusiasm of life, her love of people and nature, her warm personality, beautiful smile, her calm positive attitude and a generous, selfless manner. Mom, we honour with much love your many years of dedication to Family, Friends and Church. We thank God for your beautiful life here on earth. We are all the richer for it. Deo Optimo Maximo To God Be The Greatest Glory in Giving A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at 11:00 a.m. at John Black United Church, Henderson Highway at Roberta Avenue. Arlie and Heather would especially like to thank Nurse Norma of Donwood Manor for her sincere caring towards our family.
