Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHETTY HOCHMAN ( SWARTZ, nee BLUMBERG) Peacefully on November 5, 2007, with her children at her side. Beloved wife of William Coleman Swartz and later of Saul Hochman, both of blessed memory. Dear mother of Sara, Donald and Jane Swartz and grandmother of Coleman, Jonah, Alexandra and Vanessa. Hetty was also much loved by Saul's children, Jerry and Arlene Hochman, Rhonda and Richard Winston, Karen and Howard Davidow and their children Michael, Jonathon, Steven, Robert, Erin, Jonathon, Jenny, Avery and Marnie to whom she was also Baba. Hetty was the proud daughter of Millie and Jack Blumberg, whose social values she shared and the sister of Shirley Shinoff and her husband Alvin, the late Idy and Max Nusgart and the late Saul Blumberg and his widow Maxine. An active member of the Winnipeg Jewish community, Hetty was a caring friend, a sought-after bridge partner and Auntie Hetty to many young people who valued her warmth and open-mindedness. She had the good fortune to have had a long and healthy life and recently celebrated her 90th birthday in Winnipeg and in Montreal with her family and cherished friends. Living so far from Winnipeg, Hetty's children are grateful to the family and friends who filled her life with meaning and attention and to the caregivers on HSC GD3 for their warmth and dedication in the last days of her life. Donations in Hetty's memory may be made to the John Blumberg Memorial Prize in Political Science at the University of Manitoba. Funeral services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on November 7, 2007.
