Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY MAY DUCH (nee BUHL) January 6, 1935 - November 12, 2007 Shirley Duch, age 72 years, passed away at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ray, Dave (Shelly), and Tom. She was predeceased by her husband Merres Duch; son Grant and by her parents Elizabeth and John Buhl. Mom was raised in central Winnipeg on Alexander Avenue. She was on her own and went to work by age 14. She lived with a Ukrainian couple with whom she made perogies every Wednesday - that's why her perogies were sooo good. Mom met Merres Duke at age 17 and they were married by 18. Ray was born shortly after in Winnipeg. In 1953 the family moved to Redditt where Grant was born. The next move was to Sioux Lookout where Dave was born. Then the family moved back to Winnipeg where Tom was born. Mom spent all of her time raising the children in the North End of Winnipeg where she developed close knit relationships with several families in the community who were known as the North End Crowd . Along with Duke, the Boyd Park Community Centre became a huge loving commitment. Duke also ran in the 1974 Municipal Election and mom was his right hand campaign manager. They were also both very involved in politics with the Conservative Party and worked alongside individuals such as Ulga Fuga / The Spivak's / Ann Stein. Once the children grew up, mom needed to keep active and putting the kids through school so she took up a job at Ross Foods. She became very good friends with the owners who treated her with the utmost respect. They spent much of their time at the cabin in Redditt, Ontario since 1965. Mom had an undeniable deeply entrenched love for dad and always missed him since he passed. Now you are together again. We will take care of Whisky for you. Say hi to dad and Grant for us. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 155 Bannerman Avenue. A special thanks to Patsy for being a close friend and to the Seven Oaks Hospital nursing staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, 2300 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB R2V 3M3 or to the charity of your choice.
