WALTER MIKE MARTIN June 16, 1931 - November 8, 2007 It is often presumed that the greatness of a man is measured only in terms of the titles that are bestowed upon him, the bank account he has built, the status he is afforded within his community or the heroic acts he has been recognized for. What is often not spoken is that the true measure of a man can be seen at the end of his journey. In light of all of his mistakes he may have made in this slippery journey we call life, how many love him still...without judgement, without question, unconditionally. To this we stand together to honour the patriarch of our family, Walter Mike Martin...A GREAT MAN! On November 8, 2007, with stoic courage Grandpa returned to the place where he has always truly belonged...home with Grandma. Childhood sweethearts of Atwater, SK, Walter Martin and Ada Louttit married September 21, 1953, and started to build their family...their legacy. In 1956 Walter moved his family of five to Winnipeg, MB, where the family continued to grow. Walter and Ada moved around place to place until settling into what came to be the family home of 36 years on Carmen Avenue. Walter was a hard working man dedicating over 30 years to Structural Glass. He was also a man connected to his Elmwood community, a worthy past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3360. Reunited with loved ones passed before him he is back with his committed wife Ada, his parents William and Pauline Martin and grandson Roger who he can now have the chance to get to know. Survived by his children, Laura (Tim), Lorraine (Paul), Linton (Irene), Lyle (Kendra), Lance (Brenda), Larry (Lori), Ian (Sue), Garry (Sean), Beth (Bev). The legacy continues with the next generations of 14 grandchildren and 15 and one half great-grandchildren. Along with us stand Walter's two sisters, Emily and Eva, numerous nephews and nieces along with many other lifetime friends whom had their own place in Walter's heart. We remain with our memories able to cherish the quiet and individual relationships he had with each of us. Together we will take the opportunity to remember this great man and celebrate his life, his legacy...our family. A small graveside ceremony will be held Saturday November 17, 2007, 11:00 a.m. where we will lay our Father, Grandfather, Great- Grandfather Brother, Uncle and Friend to rest returned to Ada's side, never to be parted again. In lieu of flowers donations would be greatly appreciated to either CancerCare Manitoba or to the Children's Miracle Network. The family would like to thank the staff of the Riverview Hospital for the amazing care and respect they demonstrated in tending to the needs of our father, allowing him to pass peacefully with dignity.

He was my father. I sometimes wish I told him that I was proud of him and that I know how hard he tried to be there for me and our family. I just wish I could tell him I love him. Dad I miss you. Love you your son Ian - Posted by: Ian (Don) on: Nov 12, 2021
