WILLIAM STANLEY KAPLEN After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, William Stanley Kaplen passed away peacefully on November 13, 2007. Bill will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by his wife of almost 35 years, Karen, sons Andrew and David (Brynn), parents Bill and Alice, brother Allen (Donna) and many other family members. Bill was born in Edmonton on June 11, 1946. The family moved to Winnipeg shortly after, and Bill grew up in North Kildonan. Bill worked for many years at Standard Aero, where he earned his machinist papers, and he also worked at the family business, Ernie's Gun and Tackle. He met Karen in 1970, and they were married in 1972. Bill was an active and loving father, spending many hours with the boys teaching them how to hunt and fish. He was always there for them when they needed help with their cars or to offer his wisdom and advice. As his sons were growing up they became involved in Scouting in Stonewall where Bill was a leader for over ten years. Through his involvement with Scouting he met his good friend Al Nixon. Bill's family was very important to him and they spent many happy times at the cottage at Nutimik Lake fishing and boating and taking trips together. Bill also enjoyed hunting trips with his good friends Bob, Warner, Dayton, and Bruno. Bill was a very talented machinist and general Mr. Fixit', being determined that he could fix anything, including his illness. He taught the boys to be independent, and he was never afraid to offer help or an opinion. Bill enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends and neighbours. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall, MB. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private interment. We would like to thank all of our family and friends for their kindness and support throughout Bill's illness. Thank you also to the Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or to a charity of one's choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements
