Olive grew up in the Elmwood/East Kildonan area and completed grade 12 education. She met the love of her life, Doug, at the dance hall at Grand Beach and this was the beginning of a wonderful life together. They were active members of the Kildonan Canoe Club and Olive became the paddling convenor. During the Second World War, Doug was posted to Uclulet on Vancouver Island and Olive joined him when they were married in Vancouver on August 11, 1942. They made many life-long friends and had wonderful memories of their time together at this stage of their life.
