JOSEPH CHORNEY It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Joseph Chorney on November 14, 2007. Joe is survived by his wife Stella, children Colleen (Terry), Murray (Patti) and Susan (Gary), grandchildren Natalie, Bradley, Cameron and Lana. He is also survived by his sister Stella and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers James, Mike, Anton and John, sisters Carrie and Mary. Joe was born on October 1, 1918 to John and Nellie Chorney. He grew up and lived his entire life in East Selkirk, Manitoba. Dad learned from a young age that hard work and determination were essential for success in farming which was his career right to the end. Joe attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a diploma in agriculture. On June 28, 1947 Joe married Stella Zaborniak and together celebrated 60 years of marriage. One of Dad's greatest joys was seeing his children thrive and when his grandchildren arrived he was the proudest grandfather in East Selkirk. He was a longstanding member of the Agricultural Society and never seemed to tire talking about all aspects of farming. Dad was still able to handle large farm machinery with great precision up until the ripe age of 85. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Father Jerry Talarski officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Selkirk General Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
