Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEAH WHYNONA YATES On Thursday, November 15th, 2007, Leah Yates, aged 28 of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface palliative care unit with her family and loved ones by her side. Remaining to forever celebrate Leah's memory are her spouse Joel, parents Anthony and Helen, brother David (Robyn), sister Erin (Brett) and many other family members and close friends. Leah was born in Edmonton and moved to St. Andrews at the age of 16. Upon graduation from high school she pursued her passion for cooking by graduating with honors from the haut cuisine culinary arts program at Red River College. Leah also graduated from the Medical Assistant program with honors from Herzing College where she was also named student of the year. Leah's heart was filled with love and compassion and she had a special gift that allowed her to share those feelings with all that knew her, enriching everyone's lives she touched. Leah fought a valiant battle with a brain tumor and while her body lost the fight, the disease never touched her spirit and she remained filled with faith, hope, optimism and good humor to her last breath. The family would like to pass along special thanks for the professionalism, care and compassion exhibited by the staff of the St. Boniface palliative care unit as well as Dr. Schroeder and the staff of Cancer Care Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation can be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada. A commemoration of Leah's wonderful life will be held on Saturday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street in Winnipeg.
