KENNETH STEPHEN CARROL September 23, 1940 November 9, 2007 Ken was born on September 23, 1940 an only spoiled child, well loved. He grew up in the North End, a tiny soldier in the Second World War. Under threats from his father, he finished high school and began working for the Department of Defence for a few years. He then moved on to the Workers' Compensation Board where he spent his working life. He was an international bridge master before the age of thirty. He retired at 48 at the behest of a new government. At age 29, Ken finally met the love of his life, his wife Aline. Three years later they married and kept a strong bond that refused to break despite the vicissitudes that life hurled at them. He will be sorely missed by Aline; his son Kevin Stephen and wife Tammy; his granddaughter Kassandra Rae, a recent special joy. Also missing him are his sisters and brother and his nieces and nephews, Sancha, Shaena, Chad, Jared and Jordan Kenneth. Brother Bill Taggart, his best friend through thick and thin, will also deeply miss him. He will be remembered for his extreme kindness and caring for those who needed help and couldn't find any. Some will remember him as the cloak of anonymity in the 1980's. Others will remember him as an unintentional entertainer whose weird ways and beliefs defied logic. Intentionally, Ken entertained his nieces and nephews with original Tales of Horror, magic tricks and allowing them to pluck his leg hairs and bounce on his stomach. In his eyes, they could do no wrong. Very intentionally, Ken was the best single weekend dad that Kevin could have ever had weekends revolved around Kevin and every evening they had their buddy phone call. And for 35 years he kept Aline laughing and shaking her head in wonder at his weirdness and practical jokes. As a clerk at the WCB, Aline never went looking for the secret file vault that opened by touching a brick in the basement, but many did. Ken and Aline used the vault for their workday trysts. To the man who wrote verse That never was terse Some couplets, a few Because we'll miss you. To you from this pen: You were rare among men. In lieu of flowers, if you can, please adopt a cat at the Winnipeg Humane Society or from anywhere. Ken adopted or found homes for many cats during his life. If you cannot adopt, please donate to the Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB., R3T 0R3. At Ken's personal request, there will be no service. Please take a moment to remember him in your own way. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
