Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKRISTIN INGUNN HARKESS (nee MARTIN) 1917 -2007 After a lengthy illness, Kris Harkess passed away on November 13, 2007 at Heritage Lodge. Kris is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Charlie (Mac), daughter Sigrid (Bryan) Thiessen, son Garth (Janthea) Harkess, grandchildren, Curt Thiessen, Kaitlin and Brittany Harkess, sisters-in-law, Rae Martin and Lilja Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Gunnlaugur and Sigridur Martin and all of her siblings: Frances, Herb, Alfred, Fredrikka, Emily, Gunsi, Dori and twins in infancy, and her niece Helene Fulton. Kris, or Stina, as she was known in her family, was born on the family farm in Hnausa MB, on December 7, 1917. She obtained her teaching certificate at the Manitoba Normal School and taught in the Interlake for a number of years before she moved to Portage la Prairie to continue her teaching career. It was there that she met her future husband Mac. After their marriage on July 3, 1948 they lived in Portage for three years before moving to Charleswood, where they made their home together for over 50 years. Kris taught school in Charleswood and was involved in many community activities including the Charleswood United Church Choir and the Girl Guides. She was a founding member of the Charleswood Toastmistress Club. She had an artistic flair, and left us with many paintings and crafts to treasure. She loved music of all kinds, and in years past she played piano for sing-alongs at the Charleswood Nursing Home along with her friend Gen Clubb. Her greatest gift was her love for her family. We shall cherish her memory. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge for their kindness and compassion in caring for Kris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
