HAROLD WESLEY (JOE) GRILLS It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Wesley (Joe) Grills at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, on November 16, 2007, with his family at his side. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Eileen and his daughter, Donnalynn; sister-in-law Marnie (Lorne) Erb; brother-in-law Bud (Donna) Barkley. He was predeceased by his mother Florence, his father Norman and his only sister Marie (Clarence) Barnlund. He is also remembered by five nephews and two nieces, Karen, Greg, Kurt, Doug, Bruce, Brian, Cindy and their families as well as numerous cousins. Joe was born August 15, 1929 at the family farm near Sanford. He lived his entire life in Sanford with the exception of four years that were spent in Winnipeg. Joe was involved in numerous community organizations including the Boy Scouts, the Macdonald Volunteer Fire Department and the Sanford United Church Board. He was an avid hockey player in his early years. Joe coached girls' fastball for many years often taking his teams to the provincial level. In later years, he enjoyed golfing. His interest in sports continued as he watched his nieces and nephews play ringette, hockey, baseball and soccer. Music played an important part in his life. He was a longtime member of the Sanford United Church Choir. He also enjoyed barbershop harmony, spending over 40 years with the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen, the Sanbanks quartet and The Homesteaders Chorus. Joe had a great sense of humor and tried to find the positive in most situations. We will miss his friendly smile and dry wit. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 20 at 12:30 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joe's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or Sanford United Church Memorial Fund, Box 33, Springstein, MB R0G 2N0. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
