Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLA SOPHIA LILLIES (nee WAHLQUIST) August 6, 1916 - November 20, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her son Glenn and daughter-in-law Lynda; daughter Gloria and son-in-law Merlin Materi; grandchildren, Barbara (Richard) Mackenzie, Chris (Debbie) Lillies and Heather (Grant) Mills, as well as her great- grandchildren, Ryan Mackenzie, Brandon and Jessica Mills and step great-grandchildren, Leah and Kaylee Goehler. Mom was born in Faulkner, MB to John and Svea Wahlquist of Sweden. She grew up in Steep Rock, MB where she graduated from high school. She worked in Winnipeg before marrying our father, Carl in October, 1941. They enjoyed 30 happy, loving years living in West Kildonan until Dad's death in October, 1971. Mom was the eldest of five children. She is survived by her sister Ebba (Steini) Thorsteinson; niece Marilyn Waterman and nephew Barry (Wanda) Thorsteinson. She was predeceased by her brother John and sisters, Agnes and Helga. We sincerely thank Mom's home care workers, especially Holly, Vicki and Pat for the loving care they gave her. We are also extremely grateful for the wonderful care she received at Seven Oaks Hospital. The kindness and compassion given to Mom and to our family by the Palliative Care staff was outstanding. There will be a private graveside service in the Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
