NANCY BJARNASON With family by her side, Nancy passed away peacefully on November 17, 2007 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 80 years. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Thor in 1999, her sister Lola Yurkiw (Sam), and her parents Harry and Velma Lobchuk. She will be remembered by her daughter Pat Courtnage (Don), her sisters Mary Gravel and Ann Anderson (Stan), her brothers Russell and Bill Lobchuk, her grandchildren Andrew Courtnage and Alesya Courtnage (Tony), and great-granddaughter Sofia DiGiacomo. Nancy is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Nancy was born in the Ukraine and as a young child immigrated with her family to the Plumas/Glenela area in Manitoba. Nancy and her five siblings grew up on the farm and then in 1947 the family moved to Winnipeg. Nancy met and married Thor, her husband of 53 years. Thor and Nancy were active with the Khartum Temple Oriental Band until Thor's death in 1999. They enjoyed their cottage at Sandy Hook and regular vacations South. Nancy's natural charisma and strong character drew many close friends throughout her life. Her sense of humour, passion for life, and lively imagination made the most mundane events memorable for all those around her. She was devoted to family and remained active and involved in the lives of her child, grandchildren, and great-grand-children until her passing. She will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. J. Lynch and the Family Medicine Team at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as Palliative Care Manitoba for the kindness and support that they offered throughout Nancy's battle with cancer. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and her family will celebrate her life in a private gathering.
