WILLIAM GORDON STEWART Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William, on November 24, 2007. Bill was born on February 11, 1918 in Transcona to Florence and Hugh Stewart. On July 19, 1941, Bill married Bernice McKeown, and together they raised their family in Transcona. Bill and Bernice had spent their entire lives in Transcona, except for a few years, when Bill served in the RCAF, enlisting February 3, 1942 and discharged October 16, 1945, during which time he spent at numerous Canadian stations. He began his employment at the CNR, November 19, 1945, retiring as a store supervisor on December 31, 1976, after over 30 years of service. Bill leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his children; son Bill (Jerry); daughter Myrna Leinweber; grandchildren, Ross (Terri) Stewart, Colleen (Matt) Stacey, Jeff (Jennifer) Leinweber and Alison (Barry) Zerbin; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia and Lauren Stewart and Sarah Leinweber; and brothers, Joe (Margaret) and Jack (Elizabeth), sisters-in-law Lillian Stewart and Margaret McKeown and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice; parents, Hugh and Florence Stewart; daughter-in-law Heather Stewart; son-in-law Jack Leinweber; sister Esther Chiddenton; brother Hugh; three brothers-in-law, Eric Chiddenton, Tom Hartley, Enoch McKeown and sister-in-law Ruth Hartley. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of River East Personal Care Home for their professional and compassionate care. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Veterans Affairs Canada for their support and assistance. Memorial service to be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel 1800 Day Street with Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
