SUN OI YUEN KONG Sun Oi Yuen Kong was born in December 11, 1918, in Tong Tau village in the Taishan county of China. Her family was supported by the successful effects of her father who worked in the USA. She married Keung Kong on December 31, 1935 in a traditional arranged marriage, they had four sons, Chun Kau, Linco, Tao and Ching. Sun Oi and Keung Kong relocated to Hong Kong in 1954. In 1976, they emigrated to Grandview, Manitoba to help care for Chun Kau's three children. They still visited Hong Kong frequently and traveled to Columbia to visit Ching in the 1980's. In 1992, Sun Oi and Keung moved to Winnipeg to live with their granddaughters. Sun Oi enjoyed knitting and sewing clothing for her grandchildren and cooking delicious Chinese meals. She often visited her sons and grandchildren in Phoenix, AZ, and New York. In her later years, she met many wonderful new friends while attending the Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church with her husband. Starting in 2003, she had serious medical illnesses which eventually resulted in a prolonger hospitalization at Victoria Hospital in 2005. After her partial recovery, she moved to the fifth floor of the Poseidon Persnal Care Centre to live with Keung. She had many happy days at Poseidon but unfortunately, developed an infection in November which resulted in another admission in Victoria Hospital. As a result of the complication from her brief illness, Sun Oi passed away peacefully in the morning of November 21, at Poseidon Care Centre. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Jee Sek and her parents in China. Sun Oi is survived by her son Chun Kau (Cecilia) and granddaughters, Anne (Craig), Betty and Cindy; son Linco (Linda), and grandson Anthony(Angela) with great-grandchildren, Kevin, Vincent and Kailey and granddaughter Nichele (Eddie); and youngest son, Ching (Shuk Man) and grandson Alex.
