Born: Apr 13, 1917
Date of Passing: Nov 26, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARJORIE BERTHON VAN CAMP R.N. (nee PROCTOR) As was her way a wonderful soul slipped quietly away on November 26, 2007. She lived a very long and full life and we are grateful beyond words for all she gave us. Marjorie is survived by Robert Speers Van Camp, her husband of 66 years; her sister Elsie Castle; and her sister-in-law Arleigh Frego. She leaves her children, Keven (Gloria), Joan (Lawrence), Wanda (Dean), Arla (Jim) and Laura (Brad). Her grandchildren, David, Keven, Erin, Scott, Deanna, Tyler, Jill and Troy will forever cherish their memories of her. She had a special place in her heart for her stepgrandchildren, Armando, Laura, Irene and Lonnie and for her stepgreat-granddaughters, Kathleen and Chloe. She is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Marge was born in Winnipeg on April 13, 1917, raised in Woodlands and was the younger daughter of Major J. and Margaret B. Proctor (Tully). She attended the local school and matriculated from Rupertsland. Marge entered the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1940. Marge accepted a position as a public health nurse in Lac La Ronge, SK. There she met an HBC trader, Bob Van Camp and a wonderful love story began. Bob and Marge were married on November 7, 1941. For the ensuing 66 years, they nurtured each other, their children, their children's spouses, grandkids both by birth and adoption, neighbours, neighbours' kids, and just about anyone else who found themselves around the kitchen table. A cup of tea, a bite to eat, a pat on the back, an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a gentle admonition, or perhaps a quick thumping at cribbage, were part of time with Marge. Their journey together took them from La Ronge to Winnipeg, Ottawa, Churchill, Woodlands and finally to Stonewall. Marge was a lifelong member of the Anglican Church, particularly St. George's at Woodlands. She was very active with the A.C.W. For her, life's priorities were her family, her faith and her community. Mom delighted in the young and followed their exploits with great care and interest. She maintained that care and interest to her very last days. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Stephen Sharman at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2007, at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A private family interment will occur at a later date. Remembrances may be made to The Children's Hospital Foundation, CE 501, 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1, or the Stonewall Hospital Foundation, 601 3rd Ave. S., Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and support given to her and to us by Dr. Pinniger and staff at Stonewall Hospital. Rest eternal grant upon her, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her. Amen. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
