LYDIA LIESBETH SCHENK (nee MUELLER) Peacefully, on November 24, 2007, at Luther Home, Winnipeg, Lydia left this earth to rejoin Franz. Deeply missed by her son Burke (Yvonne); daughters, Rose (Carl), Christine (Gord); grandchildren (especially her caregiver Cheryl), great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Anni; brother Gerhard; and many other relatives in Germany. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Franz; daughter Renate (Erich); and several of her siblings. Mom was born in Schoenwiese, Germany, on May 22, 1911, the eldest of eight children. She took good care of her younger siblings until war divided the family. She immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her son, and married Franz shortly thereafter. Mom worked for many years at Raber Glove and Nordwestern Newspaper. She was very active in the German Canadian Society, especially the choir and in The Lutheran Church of the Cross. In later years Franz and Lydia camped and worked at camp Neustadt north of Gimli, where they made many friends. Mom was always an avid gardner, very health conscience, enjoyed her yard and garden and loved to cook. She always liked to look her best. The family wishes to thank the staff of Luther Home for their many kindnesses and dedicated care these last years. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Lydia's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Luther Home, 1081 Andrews Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2V 2G9. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
