Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH MARIE ATKINSON Peacefully, with her granddaughters by her side, Edith Marie Atkinson (nee Masecar) passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Deer Lodge Centre. Edith was predeceased by her husband James (Jim), her son Wayne and daughter-in-law Evelyn, her stepdaughter Faye and her brothers, Bruce and Harry Masecar. Edith is survived by her granddaughters, Sheila (Gerard) Lucyshyn and Deanne (Shawn) Hilts and her great-grandchildren, Michael and Adam Lucyshyn and James, Ryan and Sara Hilts. Also surviving her are her stepdaughter Alice and her sisters, Marie (David) Marr and Wilma Cronkwright. Edith was born May 17, 1922 in , Ontario. She pursued a career in nursing and graduated from the St. Joseph's Nursing School in Hamilton, Ontario in 1946. Edith's nursing career allowed her to travel throughout Canada and the United States and eventually to Selkirk, Manitoba where she met and married James Atkinson. They made a home together in Selkirk and raised their son Wayne. After Jim's passing in 1970, Edith moved to Winnipeg and continued nursing at the Health Sciences Centre. She upgraded her education in the late 1970s and continued her employment at the Health Sciences Centre in Health Care Management until her retirement. Edith enjoyed reading and spending time with her granddaughters and her great-grandchildren. She also spent numerous hours knitting and crocheting items, which she donated to various shelters and the Siloam Mission. In 1994, Edith purchased her first computer. Hours were spent reading computer manuals and becoming proficient in desktop publishing. Her computers were always in need of an upgrade to keep up with her demands. As her heath declined, she relied heavily on her computer and the internet to keep her up to date on current affairs and in contact with family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Carey Isaac for his years of caring for grandma, especially for the house calls during the last year. We would also like to thank the home care workers and the staff at Concordia Hospital and the Deer Lodge Centre for their care of grandma. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Please join us to honour her memory at a memorial service on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, Manitoba.
