DANIEL TRISTRAM PARR (CLARENCE WALLACE RONEY)
Born: Feb 07, 1925
Date of Passing: Nov 29, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDANIEL TRISTRAM PARR (nee CLARENCE WALLACE RONEY) February 7, 1925 November 29, 2007 A very tearful and sad passing of a small but very spirited man by his beloved family did occur on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Indeed, we will surely miss him. Daniel had more than 60 years of membership with various legions; Prince Edward Legion Branch 181 being the most recent. Daniel was awarded the Special Service Medal in recognition of his service in support of the North American treaty Organization NATO Forces. A second medal is the Canadian Volunteer Services medal War Medal 1939 -1945. From 1951 - 1953 he was stationed in Canada and Hanover, Germany. He was a part of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Little Black Devils Brigade in Canada from 1942 - 1944 (during King George's reign) and the Union Jack Flag. Although he did not ship out with them, he did train with the Hong Kong Veterans. His age and small stature had him transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Brigade. He did however, with his wife Georgina, attend a Valentine's Day Dinner and dance at Drewery-Dry Hall in honour of the Hong Kong Veterans in the 1960s; here he reconnected with the men he trained with. This he really enjoyed and was delighted to meet with them all over again. Previous to joining the Army, Daniel tended, cared for and raced horses at Polo Park Racetrack Grounds - a job he loved and wished it could have been a career for him. Daniel also drove tanks, jeeps, taxis, delivery vans, ambulances, funeral vehicles and helped repair them if necessary. He also taught ammunitions in the Army. As a young man he was very versatile and ambitious. Daniel was employed by the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Dept. where he maintained Community Clubs and their ice rinks. Being moved around throughout the City, he knew all of them. After acquiring his refrigeration license, he was transferred to arenas (their maintenance and rinks) and got to know them and their respective communities. At times, he enjoyed helping with coaching of Little League hockey Teams. Having attended Isaac Brock School as a child, he has his name on the Honour Roll there as being a soldier during the Second World War; this delighted him and also surprised him. He retired in 1990 at 65 and was saddened not to be with his friends on the job anymore. Daniel was adopted at two years of age from an orphanage and was an only child' of Henry Hutton (a city policeman) and his wife Myra Parr. Basically he grew up in the Fort Rouge area and then on St. James Street (East). To mourn his passing are his wife of 43 years Georgina; his former wife Jean-Beatrice of 20 years and their beloved children Dennis, Sandra, Bill, Casey, Kelly, Timothy and Georgiana; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel was predeceased by a twin daughter, stepson Floyd and his adoptive parents. He mourned each and every military friend he ever had as much as his family members. We all would like to take this opportunity to thank the Victoria Lifeline, paramedics, Dr. Duerksen, the Concordia Hospital staff and Barb Wilson (family friend) for all their concern, time, patience and understanding on Daniel's behalf. Also, a closing thank you to Bardal Funeral Home and the Brookside Cemetery, as per Daniel's wishes. God Bless You all Thank you.
